Top of training - WA Training Awards 2018 finalists announced

Date: 03 August 2018

Outstanding apprentices, trainees, students and trainers named as finalists in WA Training Awards 2018

The 29 outstanding individual finalists in this year's WA Training Awards have been announced today.

The WA Training Awards put the training sector in the spotlight by highlighting the achievements of apprentices, trainees, VET students, training organisations and employers.

The awards help highlight the opportunities the VET sector provides people to upskill or retrain, ensuring they can adapt to a changing economy, workplaces and jobs.

Caitlan Noble, a finalist in the WA Vocational Student of the Year 2018 category, completed a Bachelor of Commerce but discovered her passion for the health industry while completing an internship with Telethon.

She diverted from a potential career in marketing to complete a Diploma of Anaesthetic Technology at North Metropolitan TAFE, and is now employed as an anaesthetic technician at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

The individual finalists will join the recently announced organisational finalists at the awards presentation in September.  Winners may be eligible to compete against the nation's best at the Australian Training Awards later in the year.

A list of finalists is attached.

Comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"Our training system provides Western Australians with a chance to change their future.

"It allows employers to upskill existing employees to address skills gaps as the State's economy grows and diversifies.

"The WA Training Awards shine a spotlight on the benefits of VET and inspire others to take advantage of the high-quality training available in WA, ensuring they are best placed to take on the jobs of the future."
