Supporting Young People’s Recovery from COVID-19
Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia have released a framework to provide guidance for the State Government to address immediate wellbeing needs of young people, and prevent long-term consequences from COVID-19. The framework considers issues related to employment, mental health and wellbeing, education, housing and homelessness, poverty and hardship, and youth services demand. Recommendations focus on pillars of recovery, allocated against proposed lead government agencies. Those related to the Department of Training and Workforce Development focus on capacity building and social support, job creation and industry development, and education, training and community connection.
They advocate for implementation of a youth job creation quota in the public sector workforce and in public procurement processes, ensuring State Government activity directly results in the employment and/or training of local young people.
